Minister for Tourism S.P. Shunmuganathan inaugurated Aavin’s retail outlet near Tuticorin new bus stand here on Sunday in the presence of Collector M. Ravikumar.

The quality of milk available for sale was categorised into ‘toned’, ‘standardised’ and ‘full cream’. Milk was available in 250 ml and 500 ml packets. While 500 ml of toned milk was priced at Rs. 18.50, the same quantity of standardised milk was sold at Rs. 21.50 and full cream milk at Rs. 23. Apart from milk, dairy products such as ghee, butter and sweets were also available for sale in the outlet, which was close the farm fresh vegetable outlet, sources said.

Aavin’s outlet

Besides, flavoured milk in variety was available in tetra packs. Price of a flavoured milk pack was Rs. 20. Referring to the price list of dairy products, sources said that one litre of ghee was priced at Rs. 410 with a rebate of Rs. 30 on the actual price.

As for butter, a half-kg pack was available at Rs. 180. Consumers could buy ‘mysurpa’ in a quarter- kg pack at Rs. 115 and the same quantity of milk cake at Rs. 115. The price of 100 grams of ‘palcova’ was Rs. 43, 250 grams Rs. 105 and 500 grams Rs. 200, sources added.

But many consumers were disappointed since ‘ice cream,’ the most sought-after item, was not available. C. Jeyasekar, General Manager, Aavin, Tirunelveli, S. Ramesh, President of Aavin, and others were present.
