Pashu Palan Mela of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University here on Saturday ended with the message that agriculturists should see livestock farming as an impressive and effective option for diversification.

ICAR deputy director general N Krishan Kumar was the chief guest on the second day. B S Dhillon, the vice-chancellor of PAU, also visited the fair.

Harish Kumar Verma, the director of extension education, said some of their departments were providing services for rearing livestock, but value-added products like meat balls, sausages and nuggets were helping many make handsome profits. “These professions help them earn a handsome income. Women can do these professions comfortably with their household responsibilities,” he said

Kumar added that young entrepreneur could earn good returns in goat and pig farming. In this mela, college of dairy science and technology displayed about 30 value-added milk products, while the department of livestock products and technology displayed 40 value such products.
