The Department of Prisons, in association with the Animal Husbandry Department (AHD), is organising a three-day training programme in animal husbandry for the inmates of the district jail here.
The training is aimed at bringing about positive changes in convicts and undertrials to help them work for the betterment of society and themselves.
The Animal Husbandry Centre at Kottiyam near here is leading the training programme. The training to be imparted includes dairy and poultry farming, quail rearing, and vegetable farming both on ground and on the terrace.
The programme will cover 288 prisoners. Those released will get technical support for starting dairy farms by the AHD.
The programme will be inaugurated by District Collector A. Shainamol on December 21. District Veterinary Officer Anne Mary will preside and City Police Commissioner P. Prakash will deliver the keynote address.
