Flyovers, grade separator at Jagtap Dairy junction
PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: The Pimpri Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA) will build a grade separator and a flyover at Sai Chowk (Jagtap Dairy Chowk) on the Sangvi-Kiwale Bus Rapid Transit System Route to ensure smooth flow of vehicles.
Suresh Jadhav, chief executive officer of the PCNTDA, said, “Initially, the Authority had planned to construct only a flyover, but we later thought a grade separator too will help reduce congestion.”
Jadhav said the authority will construct two parallel flyovers on the Sangvi-Kiwale Road. One structure will create a way for vehicles coming from Aundh, Sangvi or Rakshak Chowk to cross Sai Chowk without stopping at the traffic signal on their way towards Kiwale. The other flyover will enable vehicles coming from Dange Chowk or Kalewadi Phata to cross Sai Chowk and proceed towards Sangvi or Aundh. As per the 2013 estimate, the flyovers would cost around Rs 38 crore.
Explaining the reasons for the delay in starting the work, Jadhav said, “The Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) has three towers before Sai Chowk which need to be shifted to the adjacent defence land.
However, we could not get permission from the defense authorities and though we had invited bids we could not give the work order. Now, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has received the permission and the work of shifting the towers will start soon.”
People have been demanding a grade separator at Sai Chowk on Pimple Saudagar Road for some time. “We had asked the College of Engineering Pune (CoEP) to study if the flyovers as well as the grade separator are needed. They gave a positive report after which we made the change,” Jadhav said.
