Pradip Kumar Amat, Minister Finance and Public Entreprises has inaugurated a 30,000 liters per day Modern Dairy Plant of Omfed at Salapada near anandapur in Keonjhar District.

According to sources, the Salapada Dairy plant has been established to provide good quality milk and milk products to the consumer in the industrial belt of Keonjhar and neighbouring Jajpur districts.

The total cost of Salapada Dairy project is Rs.4.35 crore out of which the Central Government contributed 3.65 lakh while Omfed has spent Rs.70.00 lakh.

Bishnupada Sethi, Managing Director of Omfed, who is making all out efforts to scale up milk and milk products production of the Milk Major has been instrumental in impressing upon the Union Government for funding the project.

The plant is presently supplying 21,000 litres of milk – 14000 litres of Toned Milk and 6000 litres of Premium Milk – to the consumers.

Within 10 days’ marketing, Premium Milk has got tremendous response not only from consumers in Keonjhar and Jajpur but also in the entire State.

The Modern Dairy per day is procuring milk from more than 7,000 farmers.

                Amat opens OMFED plant

After implementation of National Project for Dairy Development in the district at a cost of Rs 6.66 crore, milk procurement is expected to be enhanced by another 30 pc in a couple of years, said official sources.

The plant is procuring milk from Anandpur sub-division, Balasore Dairy and Mahanga in Cuttack for production of Toned Milk and Premium Milk.

It is providing marketing facilities at Anandpur, Jajpur Road, Jajpur Town, Panikoili, Duburi, Haripur, Mangalpur, Kalinganagar, Bari, Kuakhia, Chandikhol, Chhatia and Tangi areas through more than 100 retail outlets.

Considering upward marketing trend, Salapada Dairy may appoint 50 more agents by December, said Basant Mishra, General Manager, Omfed.

Apart from milk marketing, the plant shall also produce other milk products such as Lassi, Sweet Curd, Plain Curd, Butter Milk, Paneer, Rabidi and Ghee to cater to the local consumers, stated official sources.

Rural Development Minister Badri Narayan Patra, Keojhar MP Sakuntala Laguri, Anandpur MLA Mayadhar Jena, Omfed Chairperson Sarojini Mishra and Keojhar Milk Union President Chintamani Sahoo were also present during the inauguration.
